Will had a couple set backs with his breathing over the weekend and the mystery fevers continued to make appearances but he didn't give up and with all the prayers there was no way he was going to be kept down. Today they tried the vent valve again and Will was able to handle it even with a fever (100.4) for a full 10 minutes! He was holding his O2 levels fairly well and when they dropped low the respiratory nurse swapped the valve back out. Barb was in the room with me and we got to hear his voice which was so wonderful. Barb even used her phone to video tape it too.
He rested awhile and they did a bronchio scope late in the afternoon and tried the vent valve again in the evening. He did really well the second time, a full 27 minutes of talking! Will's 2 friends Brian G. and Rob were in the room with Wills' Dad and I. We were all thrilled to hear his voice and talk to him. Will said it is much easier talking than relying on our feeble lip reading. We were able to call his Grammie in FL and Will's brother Daniel and they also got to hear his voice over the phone. Will really did well and if his breathing holds ok over night they are going to try the vent value again tomorrow. If he is strong enough we are going to try for 30 minutes! Will is learning to time his talking with the machine and really wants to talk. He says he has so much to say! We are also hoping if he is strong enough tomorrow to try and get him outside (bed, vent and all) for a few minutes. Will said he just wants to see the sky and feel the sun and get a breath of fresh air. He is so tired of sitting in his room. So we are hoping tomorrow will be another banner day!
Love,
Marcia (Will's Mom)

Mi shebeirach - A prayer for healing (Hebrew)
Mi shebeirach Avoteinu m'kor ha-bracha L'imoteinu.
May the Source of Strength Who blessed the ones before us, help us find the courage to make our lives a blessing, and let us say, Amein.
Mi shebeirach imoteinu m'kor ha-bracha l'avoteinu.
Bless those in need of healing with refuah shleimah, the renewal of body, the renewal of spirit, and let us say, Amein.
