Will's dad doing the posting update. Sorry for the delay. We have been very busy these past few days with lots of appointments and meetings to gather information that is necessary to figure out how we can ultimately get Will back into his home after the rehab process is maximized. Will wants to come home now and get into his own bed, and we all understand clearly his words when he whispers them to us. We all want that to be the case right now. But it is going to take time and patience. And it can all be a bit overwhelming at times. I keep reminding myself of the metaphor, "How do you eat an elephant?---One bite at a time." The best way to keep from getting overwhelmed is to not look at the big picture all the time (the elephant) but to instead focus on one task at a time. My wife refers to these as "baby steps" to Will and he nods in understanding.
Will very much wants his friends to start coming to see him so please get in contact with us so we can get you on the visitor list. He understands his current physical situation and obviously wishes it was different, but overall he is handling it better than what we were anticipating. We continue to hope for long term recovery but have told Will that we are prepared to bring him home no matter what level of recovery he may or may not get down the road. So when you come to see him, it is OK to be hopeful for his future. That is what faith and hope are all about. There are some medical professionals we have met who could benefit from adding these two simple words to their medical bags. How bleak life must be for those who cannot even dare to imagine anything other than what an xray shows.
Will continues to go back and forth with the fever, one day there, the next day gone, and then back again. One of the doctors (who is absolutely fabulous) came in on Friday to explain to Will and us that the fevers may be partly due to the overall healing process in addition to the infections. He can still take breaths on his own but it tires him alot so they have reduced the amount of work that Will has to do for now and let the machine take over the deeper breathing. That means we have not been able to hear his voice as he is not strong enough to try that valve again yet. Perhaps this coming week..
Lastly, Gayle will be back this week so the posts will be more frequent again. Thanks for your patience and concern. And remember-- Faith and Hope!
This blog was designed to provide everyone with William’s status and recovery process.
Please visit frequently for information and continue to keep William and his family in your prayers.

Mi shebeirach Avoteinu m'kor ha-bracha L'imoteinu.
May the Source of Strength Who blessed the ones before us, help us find the courage to make our lives a blessing, and let us say, Amein.
