Will had a great day today. He was able to handle the talking vent valve for 30 minutes twice today and also he was actually able to take a few drinks of water! He has had nothing to drink since the accident and he said that water tasted so good and it was awsome! He said it was the most delicious thing in the world and he had been dreaming of taking a drink of water for weeks. The nurses and doctor packed up all his equipment and we took him outside, bed and all for about 15 minutes. We barely fit through the front door of the hospital but we made it (we were afraid we were going to have to get some WD 40 for a minute). Will loved it. He said just seeing the sky and feeling the wind and sun was almost as good as that first drink of water. He loved being able to talk (he talked non stop each time) and said it is so nice to just say something and not have 2 or more people leaning over him and asking over and over 'what did you say again'?
The doctors also removed his neck brace this morning since the X ray looked good and his neck area was healing nicely. He has been initiating breathing on his own since yesterday at 7AM and he is going to push for a full 48 hours. The machine is still helping him take deep breaths but he is doing alot of the work now. He went all through the night last night initiating all his breathing even while sleeping (first time!). All in all it was a terrific day.
Thank you for all your prayers and keep them coming!
Love,
Marcia

Mi shebeirach - A prayer for healing (Hebrew)
Mi shebeirach Avoteinu m'kor ha-bracha L'imoteinu.
May the Source of Strength Who blessed the ones before us, help us find the courage to make our lives a blessing, and let us say, Amein.
Mi shebeirach imoteinu m'kor ha-bracha l'avoteinu.
Bless those in need of healing with refuah shleimah, the renewal of body, the renewal of spirit, and let us say, Amein.
