Wills surgeon said with the Hillrom bed we have this should not be happening. That immediately prompted a call to Hillrom to come out and check the bed. We found that the bed indeed had a defect and the main pump wasn't working. They replaced the pump but the damage was done unfortunately. This was probably one of the reasons we got the wounds originally. Wish to God we had known the bed was defective earlier.
The right side post op was doing great but since we had to keep Will off his right side for three weeks the left side which had deep tissue damage from the bed re opened. We were back at square one. Not good.
We started Will on hyperbaric treatments (high pressure oxygen) daily in hopes it will help the pressure ulcers to heal. The right side is making good progress slowly but the left side got infected and went very deep to the bone. We cant transfer him by hoyer and wheel chair because of further risk of shearing to both wounds so he goes by ambulance stretcher daily. There is now some new surface damage to the skin over his tail bone since the stretchers aren't well padded. We have been experimenting with memory foam pads under his backside with limited success. Rough times and Will is completely bed ridden again. Hoping and praying things will turn around soon.
Prayers are greatly appreciated as we really need Gods help!
